HURRICANE ISABEL
SYC sustained extensive damage from
Hurricane Isabel on September 18 and 19, 2003.
As usual, and with great pride from within, we pulled together to repair
and clean up our club. All club facilities are back in service and the docks are
repaired. Although we had a few bee
stings, cuts, and bruises, no one was hurt during the hurricane or during the
cleanup.
Here is a summary of the damage we
sustained:
- Drysail – Only the
finger dock and double steel dock were available for use. The boat hoists were working.
- Riverside – Only the
ramp dock and three standard docks were usable. The rest of the
docks were removed from the water and repaired.
- Harbor - Almost all the moorings
moved.
- Club Barge - Both
pontoons had holes and the barge itself sustained heavy damage and had to
be replaced.
- Pavilion - A tree landed
on the southeast corner of the pavilion.
- Clubhouse - Power was
off for two days.
- Clubhouse grounds - Two
trees fell and were removed.
