Susquehanna Yacht Club

The Susquehanna Yacht Club, SYC,
established in 1950, is located in the rolling hills of southern Pennsylvania
on the Susquehanna River.
The SYC clubhouse overlooks the historic Long
Level section of the Susquehanna River, also known as Lake Clarke. The Safe Harbor Dam forms this part of
the Susquehanna River. Long Level
provides 10 miles of water deep enough for most keel sailboats and powerboats. In the late
1800s and early part of this century this area was a link for major river barge
traffic headed south to the canals connecting to the Chesapeake Bay. Today three power dams lie between SYC
and the bay. During periods of low water, parts of the old canals are still
visible.
The Susquehanna Yacht Club offers members fun
and fellowship both on and off the water.
There are weekly races for Lightnings and Flying Scotts. We also have several PHRF-handicapped
races each summer for cruisers.
Power boaters will find good water for water-skiing, tubing, and other
active water sports. A leisurely
trip to the dam or to the islands is fun for everyone. The Susquehanna River provides a rare
and beautiful "playground" enjoyed by all.
Our clubhouse is open year
round. With both an enclosed and open porch, the view is
fantastic. Inside are all of the
comforts of home; a full kitchen, a projection TV, a fireplace, air-conditioned
locker rooms, and an ice machine.
Members may rent the clubhouse for personal functions. It will seat between 125 and 150
people. Along the river in front
of the SYC clubhouse is a launch area for small sailboats, our mooring area,
dinghy storage, small sailboat and trailer boat storage, and several docks.
Just north of the clubhouse is a
well - shaded area we call “Riverside”.
At Riverside, you’ll find our boat ramp, many more docks, water,
electric, a camping area, a small play area for children, temporary and
permanent RV or trailer spaces, barbecue grills, and plenty of picnic tables.
SYC is an all-volunteer organization. Various committees,
such as docks, harbor, house, and grounds maintain the club. A board
of seven elected officials directs the club. Staff officers include Commodore, Vice-Commodore,
Rear-Commodore, Treasurer, and Secretary.
We have 78 harbor moorings and 50 land spaces on
our grounds. SYC has 12 floating
steel docks, 1 launching ramp, and 2 electric hoists (for boats under 1500
lbs).
Our club is very active in both sailing and
power boating. About 60% of our
members are sailors. Vessel size
is limited to 28' in the SYC harbor and land storage areas.
If you would like to visit us, email SYC . Please, include your name, daytime, and
evening phone numbers. Members of
other clubs carrying a Reciprocal Courtesy Card from the Yachting Club of
America are welcome at any
time. If you would like an
application for membership or have any questions regarding membership please go
