The Comet Class has a long history of sailing at Susquehanna Yacht Club. Chartered in the 1950′s fleet 145 was active into the early 1980′s when the fleet disbanded. The fleet has been reactivated in 2013 and is looking forward to growing as the Comet Class begins building new boats and actively recruiting new members. Fleet racing is planned for Wednesday evenings and weekend regattas hosted at SYC.
The Comet was designed by C. Lowndes Johnson as a trailerable version of the Star. The design combines a 16 foot hard chine planing hull with a classic sloop rig with a distinctively large mainsail. The result is a boat that can plane downwind and on a reach in just 10 to 12 knots of wind, yet remain stable upwind.
